        Fruit & Vegetable Equipment

Fruit and vegetable farming is its own world compared to grain farming, and the equipment needs are completely different. If you’re growing produce — whether it’s a small market garden or a large commercial operation — you need specialized tools and machinery that’s designed for the unique challenges of growing fruits and vegetables. Regular farm equipment just doesn’t cut it for this kind of work.

Planting and transplanting equipment is a big one. Whether you’re setting out tomato transplants, seeding carrots, or planting strawberry runners, having the right planter or seeder saves a ton of time and labour. Hand planting works fine when you’re small, but once you scale up even a little bit it’s just not practical anymore. There are some really good specialty planters out there now that can handle all kinds of different crops.

Harvesting is probably where the most specialized equipment comes in. Berry harvesters, potato diggers, onion toppers, carrot lifters — each crop has its own set of tools. And because a lot of produce is harvested by hand or semi-mechanically, things like harvest aids, conveyors, and sorting tables are really important for keeping your crew efficient and your product quality high.

Post-harvest handling is another huge area. Washing, grading, sorting, cooling, and packing — you need the right setup to get your product to market in good condition. Cold storage facilities are essential for most produce because shelf life is everything in this business. Lose a day of freshness and you lose money — it’s that simple.

Irrigation systems, greenhouses, high tunnels, and row covers are also big for fruit and veg growers. Season extension is a game changer in Canadian climates where the growing season is short.

The companies here offer equipment and services specifically for fruit and vegetable producers. Definitely worth a look if that’s your thing.
